Governors Fall in Both Boys and Girls Basketball

The Pierre Governors in both the boys and girls game led after the first quarter but both fell as the Aberdeen Central girls won 44-28 and the boys defeated Pierre 50-35.

The Governor girls held a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and also held a two point lead at halftime. However, Aberdeen Central would go into the lead at 28-24 at the end of the third quarter and then outscore Pierre 16-4 in the fourth quarter. Pierre shot 31% from the field in the first half but then it was just 13% in the second half including 0-8 from long range. Reese Terwilliger had the team high eight points for Pierre while Aberdeen Central’s Kaina Mounga had a game high 21 and the only player in double figures for either side. The Governors fall to 3-8 on the year and the Golden Eagles improved to 2-11.

The Governor boys opened up an 11-8 lead after the first quarter but trailed 21-18 at the end of the half and never regained the lead. The Govs shooting woes carried throughout the game as Lincoln Kienholz was the only player in double figures with just 10 points. Pierre had just 10 turnovers in the game but couldn’t just knock down shots. Noah Behrends also had 10 to lead Aberdeen Central who improve to 8-5 while the Governors are now at 5-6.
