Third Grain Producer Protection Bill Passes South Dakota Senate

PIERRE — The third bill that looks to protect grain producers in South Dakota has joined two others with unanimous support from the South Dakota Senate. District 24 Senator Mary Duvall says Senate Bill 38 targets grain broker activity…

Senate Bills 35 and 39 were approved by the Senate and moved to the House earlier this week. Senate Bill 38 increases the penalty for brokering a grain sale with an unlicensed buyer to a Class Five felony which requires a two/thirds vote for passage. The measure passed 33 to zero with two excused votes. Class Five felonies in South Dakota carry a maximum possible penalty of five years in prison and or a 10-thousand dollar fine.
