Charger Girls Start Slow, Finish Strong, Tame Panthers

After trailing 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, the Sully Buttes Charger girls basketball team slowed down their turnovers and found their rhythm en route to a 54-41 victory Tuesday night in Timber Lake.

The Panthers—now 4-4—pushed the tempo of the game right out of the gate, and Sully Buttes had numerous unforced turnovers to help Timber Lake’s cause.  But the Chargers battled back and took a 23-21 lead at halftime.  Sully Buttes outscored Timber Lake 31-20 in the second half, and closed out the game at the free throw line to push their record to 8-3.

Leading in scoring was Stevie Wittler, who finished with 20 points, and hit 10 of twelve from the free throw line.  Lydia Hill and Addy Chicoine were also in double figures, with Hill scoring 13, and Chicoine adding ten points.

The Charger girls will now get a home contest Thursday night against the Stanley County Lady Buffs.  You can hear the action on Country 95.3FM, pierrecountry dot com, and watch on Youtube at Country 95.3FM sports.
