Waldron Bridge Construction Now One Year Behind Schedule

FORT PIERRE — Construction on the John Waldron Memorial Bridge is not going well. Officials with the South Dakota Department of Transportation gave an update on the struggles to the Fort Pierre City Council Tuesday night. Pierre area engineer Dean VanDeWiele says the bridge is currently a year behind schedule…

Only two of the nine-foot, six-inch diameter drilled shafts have been fully completed. VanDeWiele says contractor Jensen Construction is working with D-O-T officials and others to figure out how to finish drilling the holes to hold the bridges supports, the longest of which is 135 feet deep…

Just because the underwater work is on hold, it doesn’t mean work on the 1,686-foot bridge is on pause…

VanDeWiele says they recently got a new schedule from Jensen Construction and are looking through it to find any efficiencies and ways to try and get the project back on track.
