Dug too Deep, Lady Capitals Can’t Pull Off Monster Comeback

The Oahe Lady Capitals trailed 5-0 with under two minutes to play in the second period, stormed back to pull within one, but couldn’t find the tying goal in a 5-4 loss on the road to the Rushmore Thunder.

Paige Zimiga scored the lone first period goal early on in the first, and even though the Capitals outshot the Thunder, still trailed at the end of the first period. Four second period goals by the Thunder exploded the surprising first period lead to a near blow-out. Mallory Chisolm, Kadince Skyberg, Kayln Cover and Evan Woods all scored in the second. With 1:11 left in the second Alyssa Stahl scored her second of the season to start the comeback trail for the Caps heading into the third. Brylee Kafka was able to get a seeing eye shot through traffic to pull the Caps to 5-2 and then it was Ashton Lee who had a break away and a power play goal to pull the Caps within one with just over four and half minutes remaining. However, the Thunder were able to shut the down and hold the Caps from tying it up as Oahe has now gone winless in its last five games. Rushmore picks up two huge points to move to 3-9 on the season while the Caps are 3-5-2-1.

The Lady Caps will take on defending state champion, Aberdeen Cougars on Friday on the road. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00.
