Missouri Shores Awarded 2.02 Million Dollar Grant For New Shelter

PIERRE — Missouri Shores Domestic Violence Center has received a two million dollar Community Development Block Grant to help build a new two story domestic violence shelter. The grant comes from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Missouri Shores Executive Director Sarah Reinhart says the grant fund is great ‘seed money’ for the expansion effort…

The shelter’s estimated cost is over three-point-five million dollars. There are time contingencies with the C-D-B-G grant and that means Missouri Shores has a lot of fundraising to do in a fairly short time frame…

The grant money is tied to Covid-19 support which will open unique opportunities to serve and protect even more people…

The new shelter will host 13 rooms where the current shelter only has nine. Those wanting to donate to help Missouri Shores raise match money for the grant can call 605-224-0256. The City of Pierre helped Missouri Shores get the grant by applying for the grant on Missouri Shores behalf and will act as a pass-through for grant funding.
