Cold Shooting Fourth Quarter for Pierre Can’t Complete Comeback

The Pierre Governors climbed back from a 17 point first half deficit to pull within three heading into the fourth quarter, but the Govs went cold from the field in the fourth quarter and fell to the Mitchell Kernels 45-41 in Mitchell Friday night.

Pierre shot just 29% from the field in the first half while the Mitchell Kernels shot 55% to lead 32-15 at the end of the first half. Six threes in the third for Pierre brought them back to 39-36 at the end of the third quarter. However, Pierre missed its first 13 shots in the fourth quarter and while Mitchell wasn’t any better, Pierre just couldn’t find a way to pull into the lead in the fourth. Ryann Barry, though, had a career high 16 with four threes in the loss. She was the only Governor into double figure. Taylor Giblin had the Mitchell team high with 10. Pierre turned the ball over 26 times in the loss while Mitchell had 24 turnovers.

Pierre and Mitchell are both now 2-6 on the season as the streak extends to four straight losses for the Govs. Pierre will travel to Box Elder on Tuesday to take on the Douglas Patriots. Coverage will begin at 7:40 with tipoff at 8:00 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
