Charger Boys go Down to the Wire, Knock off Ipswich in Hoops Play Tuesday

In a tight back-and-forth game, the Sully Buttes Chargers held close to the athletic Ipswich Tiger boys and squeaked out a 35-33 victory Tuesday night in Onida.

The Chargers used a 2-3 zone defense to slow up the fast moving Tigers, and kept them out of their rhythm all night, while the Tigers played equally tight defense on the other end, so every field goal attempt was contested.

The two teams were tied 10-10 after the first quarter, with Sully Buttes leading 20-16 at the half.  At the end of three quarters, Tiger guard Trevor Heinz hit a three point shot, and Ipswich led 25-22.  The two teams then tied it at 30 apiece in the final stanza, when Jordan Schall hit two big three point shots, and Marshall Wittler added another to put Sully Buttes up for good.  Time ran out when Ipswich was unable to get a clean look and shot off.

The 2-4 Chargers will now face Miller Thursday in a girls/boys doubleheader, while Ipswich, at 4-2, faces winless Wilmot Friday night.
