In a tight contest throughout, the Sully Buttes Charger girls saw a lead slip away late, after taking the lead at the half, and in overtime the Highmore Harrold Pirates slipped away with a 54-50 overtime victory at the Hyde County Auditorium Friday night.
The veteran Pirates start five seniors, and came out using their height advantage over smaller Sully Buttes, but the Chargers battled back with quick ball movement, and a big game by Allyson Wittler, who finished with 14 points, leading all scorers. Low post player Lydia Hill was also in double figures, with eleven points in the loss.
For Highmore/Harrold, Grace Knox led all Pirates with 13 points, going seven of nine from the free throw line to help the Pirates cause. Fellow senior Letha Jessen had 12 points, and Maddie Knox contributed 11 points for the 6-2 Pirates.
The 6-2 Charger girls get no rest as they’ll travel to Redfield Saturday evening for a 6:30 tip against Class A Florence/Henry.
