Charger Boys Hoops Start Slow, Come on Strong for First Win of the Season

The Sully Buttes Charger boys basketball team trailed 10-0 in the first three minutes of their game against a fired up Highmore Harrold squad, but didn’t get rattled, and stormed back to a 64-47 victory Thursday night in Onida.

The Chargers trailed 18-16 after the first quarter, and led 30-29 at the half, but outscored the Pirates 34-18 in the second half to notch their first victory, and go to 1-4 on the season.

Leading the way was junior Landon Hepker, who led all scorers with 19 points, while Marshall Wittler added 17, and senior Dwight Kinney finished with 12 points.

Trake Cowan had a big night in the low post for the 1-4 Pirates, finishing with 18 points, and Peyton McDonnell scored eight.  Highmore Harrold couldn’t sustain their offensive intensity into the second half, and Sully Buttes figured out a motion offense that the Pirates couldn’t contain.

Next up for Sully Buttes is a home contest Tuesday against a veteran Ipswich team, while the Pirates will be at home against Faulkton.
