Stanley County Splits Doubleheader with Highmore-Harrold

The Stanley County Buffaloes came away with a split of a doubleheader at the Hyde County Auditorium Tuesday night as the Highmore-Harrold girls won 52-22 and the Stanley County boys won 49-28.

Stanley County was able to hang with the Pirates after the first quarter trailing just 11-9 and 21-15 at the end of the half, but a strong third quarter for Highmore-Harrold as they outscored the Lady Buffs 20-0 to doom Stanley County as they fall to 1-5. Jordyn Sosa had eight while Taylee Stroup had seven and Mattie Duffy with five for the Lady Buffs. The Pirates were led by Letha Jessen with 22 and Grace Knox with 11.

The Stanley County boys were able to do the Pirates boys what the girls did as they shutout the Pirates in the second quarter to take a commanding 31-7 lead at the break. Lathan Prince led Stanley County with 11 points while Cormac Duffy chipped in 10 and Stran Scott had nine. Carter Lamont paced the Pirates with eight. The Buffaloes improve to 4-1 with win.

The Buffaloes will travel to McLaughlin on Thursday for a doubleheader. The girls will play first with the boys game to follow.
