Fort Pierre Looking Closer At Water Treatment Options With Major One-Time Grant Funding Possible

PIERRE — No formal action was taken to move forward, but the City of Fort Pierre will continue to look at options for the city’s water system, especially with the prospect of significant one-time money looming for infrastructure improvements. Mayor Gloria Hanson says they’ve gotten some good news on the city’s water situation…

Hanson says officials with the state Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources have encouraged Fort Pierre to put a treatment plant on the State Water Plan….

Those options would include looking at the scope and cost of a project. Engineering firm Bartlett and West is putting together a facility plan, needed for inclusion in an application to the State Water Plan. Public Works Director Rick Hahn says there is a tight time line to be able to be eligible for grant funding…

Hanson says the city’s water task force will be involved in the decision making along with city council committees and public hearings before the City Council would take any formal action on moving forward with a plan. However some federal funding opening up the grant opportunities would have to be used, if approved, by 2026.
