The Oahe Capitals would not see any goals in the girls game on Sunday as the Lady Capitals and Yankton Gazelles would tie 0-0, while the Capital boys would route the Bucks for the second straight game with a 9-1 win.
Both goalies were outstanding in the game on Sunday as Abigail Stewart-Fromm would stop all 27 shots from the Gazelles as Yankton went 0-7 on the power play. Unfortunately for the Capitals, Jayda Tjeerdsma was just as outstanding as Stewart-Fromm stopping all 35 shots. The Lady Capitals went 0-1 on the power play. Oahe will now be at 3-2-1-1 on the season with eight total points and sit in seventh place in the standings, although they have games in hand on four of the six teams in front of them.
The Capital boys picked up where they left off on Sunday as they found the net 20 times in a total of two games. Carter Sanderson added to his state leading goal total with another two on the night moving him to 15 on the season. Keller Herman and Dre Berndt also scored twice in the win for the Caps. Jarron Beck and Ashton Griese each had three assists as Griese leads the state in assists with 15. Jon Lyons, Keenan Howard and Grayson Hunsley all added goals for the Caps. Collin Lee picked up his second win between the pipes with eight saves on nine shots. The Capitals are now 6-1 and sit in second place in the standings.
The Oahe girls will play again on Sunday, Jan. 2, in Mitchell puck drop at 2:00 while the boys will play next in Sioux Falls against the Sioux Falls 2 Flyers on Saturday, Jan. 1 at 8:30.
