After the first quarter in the Sully Buttes-Winner boys basketball team the score was 8-Winner. After that, the Warriors put the pedal to the metal and pulled away with a 55-24 victory Saturday afternoon in Onida.
The Warriors were coming off a victory Friday night on their home court against fourth ranked West Central, and after warming up, outscored the Chargers 26-5 in the second quarter, to take a 34-10 halftime lead.
The Warriors pushed and fast breaked their way to force the mercy rule midway through the third quarter. The continuous clock kept the pace going, and both teams had opportunities to sub down for bench player court time.
Leading the way for Winner was junior Blake Volmer, who scored 14 points to help lead a balanced attack. Three players ended their afternoon with double digit scoring.
For the Chargers, junior Landon Hepker finished with 9 points, and Sully Buttes’ record now drops to 0-2, with a road contest Monday at Aberdeen Roncalli.
The Warriors up their season mark to 4-0, and will be off until December 28th when they play Bon Homme.
