The basketball season arrives for the Pierre Governors as the girls team will host both Rapid City Stevens and Central on Friday and Saturday while the boys will travel out west to Rapid City.
The Pierre girls return three seniors to this year’s team although Emily Lingle will begin the season out with an injury in hopes of returning near February. Layni Stevens and Jenna Bush, the other two seniors look to lead the Governors in its opening two games against Stevens and Central. Both Stevens and Central made the state tournament last season with Stevens being the state runner-up and head coach of the Pierre Governors Kirk Beebout says they present different challenges…

The Governor boys have just one senior, Matt Hanson, as Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman return as starters for Pierre this year into their junior campaign. They begin the season on the road in Rapid against two teams who struggled last season, but Stevens, Pierre’s first opponent, has received a huge boost. Nate Kindred joins the team coming from Oregon, a top 30 recruit in the state and will begin playing immediately for Stevens. Coverage will begin at 7:40 tonight with tipoff at 8:00 and on Saturday at 2:10 with tip at 2:30, all Central Times. The girls will begin its season at 7:00 tonight at Riggs high school and then on Saturday at 1:00 against Central.
