PIERRE — A Pierre man was arrested Wednesday during an incident that required assistance for a Pierre police officer. Pierre Police Captain Byran Walz says an officer was called to the 700 block of West Dakota Avenue for an assault report. As the officer was investigating the alleged assault, the suspect 35 year-old Rio Thompson barged into the residence. Thompson was acting aggressive and belligerent with everyone at the location. Thompson then attempted to flee as the officer went to take him into custody. A struggle then ensued prompting the officer to call for back up. Thompson was taken into custody on two charges; simple assault and false imprisonment, based on the original complaint. Thompson was then transported to the Hughes County Jail.
