The Oahe Lady Capitals finished the first weekend of the season with five out of a possible six points winning on both Friday and Saturday over Huron and Rushmore before falling in overtime to Brookings.
Friday, Olivia Swenson scored the opening goal three minutes in as Kierstan Miller had two and Ashton Lee netted a hat trick in a 7-3 win over the Huron All Stars. Abigail Stewart-Fromm stopped 19 of 22 shots on the night.
Saturday, Lee scored another two goals as Swenson added four points on two goals and two assists in another 6-2 rout of the Rushmore Thunder. Brylee Kafka and Alyssa Stahl both added their first goals of the season with Stewart-Fromm making 21 saves.
Sunday, Savannah Barber scored the final three goals for the Rangers, tying the game twice and netting the overtime winner to defeat the Lady Caps for the first time this season. Kafka had two goals as Lee added her seventh of the weekend and Swenson her fourth as the Caps came up short in the 5-4 overtime loss.
The Lady Caps are 2-0-0-1. With five points in the first weekend they are just three points shy of last year’s point total.
