Rangers Comeback and Defeat Capitals in Overtime

The Brookings Rangers scored a third period goal and the overtime game winner to defeat the Oahe Lady Caps for its first loss of the season 5-4, Sunday afternoon at the Expo Center in Ft. Pierre.

The Rangers scored two early goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead but Brylee Kafka scored 11 seconds later to pull to 2-1. Olivia Swenson scored a minute later to tie the game before Swenson got her second of the game to give the Caps a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period. Savannah Barber scored her first of the season early in the second but 14 seconds later was answered by Ashton Lee’s seventh of the season as the Caps led 4-3 at the end of the second period. Barber would score her second of the game early in the third period to send the game to overtime and finished off the hat trick in overtime to beat the Lady Caps for their first loss. Abigail Stewart-Fromm made 22 saves on 27 chances.

The Lady Caps are 2-0-0-1 and have five points in the first weekend. With five points in the first weekend they are just three points shy of last year’s point total. Oahe will travel to Watertown next Saturday for a boys and girls split doubleheader.
