Sanderson’s Hat Trick, Duffy’s Shutout Power Capitals Past Mitchell

Carter Sanderson scored his first goal midway through the first period, his first of three as the Oahe Capitals would rout the Mitchell Marlins 9-0 in the opening game of the season.

The Caps led 1-0 after the first period, but would strike for six second period goals with Sanderson and Ashton Griese each with two goals. Jon Lyons scored a 5-on-3 power play goal followed by Griese’s second goal. Both Griese and Sanderson had four points each. Barrett Schweitzer, Devin Dodson and Keller Herman each added a goal in the win. Kieran Duffy finished with 25 saves in net and his first shutout of the season.

The Caps will play Aberdeen next Friday, Watertown on Saturday and Huron on Sunday. All three games will be on Capital City Rock, capitalcityrock.com and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
