The Pierre Governors were in control through the first two sets of the first round of the AA state tournament to the Brandon Valley Lynx on Thursday but the Lynx stormed back and would reverse sweep the Governors in five sets, winning 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 15-11.
Pierre won two close sets, but barely trailed in any of the first two sets including leading the entire first set to a 25-20 win. The momentum changed as the Lynx stormed out to a large lead in the third set but even as Pierre battled back, Brandon Valley remained in control and then took the fourth set with ease. Brandon Valley then controlled the final set and were able to work around 12 service errors to Pierre’s one in the match to come all the back for the win. Brandon did pick up nine aces to Pierre’s five. Ayvrie Kaiser led the way with 10 kills, Reese Terwilliger with nine and Lily Sanchez had eight.
Pierre will face Huron tomorrow afternoon in the consolation semifinals. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 Central time with coverage beginning at 12:40 on KCCR and kccrradio.com with Jon Winkler on the call.
