Ferley’s Jewelers Makes The Hard Decision To Close Nearly 100 Years Of Business In Pierre

PIERRE — A Pierre-based jewelry store, steeped in history is bringing nearly 100 years of service to a close. With origins as the watch repair section of a shoe store in 1923, Ferely Jewlers began as Dukelow Jewerly Store. William Dukelow partnered with Lester Ferely in 1944 and three years later Ferley bought out Dukelow and the name stuck ever since. The name Ferley was retained when Robert Kaiser took over in 1981. His son, Rick took the reins in 2003. Rick Kaiser says it’s simply time…

Kaiser says choosing to close was very difficult…

Kaiser says he won’t advertise his services any more, but may not be able to cut the cord completely…

In the end, Kaiser says it’s the customers that kept the store alive…

The store on South Pierre Street will be closed this week to prepare for the final weeks of operation. Ferley’s will re-open November first and have a going-out-of-business sale for six weeks with discounts of 75-percent or more. Those with work in progress on jewelry or watches can call 605-224-2467 to make arrangements to pick it up this week or wait until the reopening on November 1st.
