Pierre’s Re-bid Request Of Essential Air Service Contract Rejected By US DOT

PIERRE — The City of Pierre commented some on the rejection of Pierre and Watertown’s request of U-S Department of Transportation officials to have the cities current Essential Air Service contract re-bid. Airport Liaison to the Pierre City Commission Jamie Huizenga says the October 1st notice puts confirmation to what was widely believed…

Pierre first requested a re-bid in April. The request drew support from South Dakota’s Congressional delegation and Governor Kristi Noem along with SkyWest Airlines, who lost the bid to Denver Air Connection…

Huizenga also tried to clear the air over some conflicting airline information…

SkyWest indicted shortly after losing the E-A-S bid that it would stay on through the end of the year and has given no indication as to when it will end its Pierre to Denver service. SkyWest has outperformed Denver Air since Denver Air won the contract in July, but Denver Air has seen increasing enplanements with each month of service so far.
