Pierre Soccer Begins Title Quest, Both in 7-10 Matchups

The Pierre Governor Soccer teams begin its journey for a state championship in different locations but the same seeded matchup. The Governor girls play at home against Sioux Falls Roosevelt as the seven seed while the Governor boys will travel to Sioux Falls to face Lincoln as the 10 seed.

The Governor girls are in a rematch from earlier in the season, a game they won 1-0 at the Pierre Indian Learning Center. Avery Davis had the lone goal while Jenna Gehring had one of her many tremendous games in net for the Governors. Pierre will be looking for more offense and a faster start than in the first meeting.

While it was back in late August, head coach Kira Swenson still looks at the game and says you can see the growth since then…

Swenson says they need to stay focused on their own game…

The Governor boys will see Lincoln for the first time this year as they play at Yankton Trail Park. The Governors dropped from the eight seed to the tenth seed after a loss to Huron and both the Tigers and O’Gorman Knights winning its final games. The Governors do have the benefit of playing on grass again even on the road to begin the playoffs.

Head coach Miguel Manriquez says Lincoln plays a lot more defensive but they like the matchup…

Manriquez says they need to play a team game against the Patriots…

The Governor boys will play at 5:00 with the girls game beginning at 4:00. You can listen to the girls game beginning at 3:40 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and you can watch it on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
