Pierre Soccer Splits with Huron to End Season

The Pierre Governor soccer teams ended the season with split decisions as the Governor boys would fall 5-1 while the Governor girls would shutout Huron 5-0.

In the first game, the Pierre boys would go down 1-0 with nine minutes left in the first half after a free kick was not covered cleanly by Carson Ahartz. Huron would add to the lied early in the second half with goals from Wah Sa Ro and Ronaldo Pineda to go up 3-0. Cole Peterson scored the lone goal for Pierre to pull within 3-1 but as the Govs needed to keep pushing, gave up two more goals at the end of the game, falling 5-1. Pierre was outshot 15-14 as Ahartz made seven saves on the afternoon. The boys finished at 6-5-2.

The Pierre Governor girls team finished out the season with a big shutout over the Tigers. Pierre would out shoot the Tigers 34-0 as Ava Flottmeyer would score three times for her first hat trick of the season. Seniors Ragan Rae and Avery Davis scored the other two goals. Jenna Gehring only had a couple of passes as she was not tested thanks to solid defense for Pierre. The girls finish the season at 9-3-1.

The Governors will have to wait until after Thursday’s games for their respective first round opponents. KCCR will have coverage of Pierre Governor playoff soccer throughout the runs.
