Pierre Defense Holds Strong, Offensive Line Pushes for Win in Yankton

The high tempo offense of the Yankton Bucks were able to run a lot of plays on Friday night but the defense held the Bucks in check as the Governors were able to pick up a 24-10 win on Yankton’s homecoming night.

The Governors scored on the very first play of the night with a 72 yard pass from Lincoln Kienholz to Jack Merkwan. After a three and out, the offense put its second touchdown on the board with a five play drive capped on a six yard run for Keinholz. Trevor Paulson would get the Bucks on the board on the ensuing nine play drive with a 45 yard field goal. The score stood pat from there until the fourth quarter when Cole Peterson put in his first field goal of the season from 37 yards out. Kienholz, who finished the game with 198 yards on the ground and 207 yards through the air, had 10 rushes on an 11 play drive and finished it with a one yard rush to put the Govs up 24-3. A late touchdown was all the Bucks could muster as they could not recover an onside kick which Devin Dodson fell on top of to seal the win.

The Governors outgained the Bucks 423-357 with Keinholz accumulating 405 yards in total on 31 carries and 9-29 passing. Rugby Ryken, Yankton’s quarterback went 16-36 for 194 yards with a touchdown pass, an interception and a lost fumble. The Governors were able to nab three turnovers off the Yankton offense.
