Girls Pickup another Shutout, Derry’s PK Ties Jefferson for Boys

The Pierre Governors finished Saturday’s contest against Sioux Falls Jefferson with the girls winning 1-0 while the boys picked up a huge tie 1-1.

The Governor girls had good energy throughout the match against the Cavaliers as they had numerous good early looks. Grace Richter crossed a ball into the box with 23 minutes left in the first half in which it went over the goalkeeper’s outstretched arm and fell onto the foot of Avery Davis to score the game’s lone goal. While Pierre was outshot in the game 7-6, Jenna Gehing made just three saves on the afternoon in her first game back.

The Governor boys played to a 1-1 draw, but in the first half held the Cavaliers scoreless with Carson Ahartz needing just one save. However, the Cavaliers upped its pressure in the second half having Ahartz make six saves but one shot getting past him with Byron Ochoa Ochoa, the team leader in goals, giving Jefferson the lead with 13:45 left. Pierre thought they had tied the game up with a Cole Peterson but was ruled offside which put Pierre in a tough spot trying to tie the game. However, Devon Flottmeyer was fouled inside the box with just 1:19 left in the game resulting in a penalty kick. Rylan Derry took it and made no mistake scoring to even the game at 1-1 giving Pierre a massive tie over the number one team in AA.

Pierre will finish the regular season on Tuesday at home against Huron. The boys will play first at 4:00 with the girls to follow. The doubleheader will be on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YoiTube at KCCR Sports.
