The Pierre Governors have a tough test on Tuesday afternoon as the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles come to town with only three matches left in the 2021 season.
The Governor girls will be playing without Jenna Gehring after receiving a red card in Thursday’s match against the Brookings Bobcats. Jillian Hanson is the probable starter as the keeper for the Govs in what will be her first start in her varsity career. The Govs are at 7-3-0 and in fourth place in the AA standings while the Gazelles are in 12th place at 4-5-1. Yankton has had an up and down season and are 2-1-1 in the last four. While there are no easy wins in AA soccer, the Govs last two opponents will be farther down the standings, so this may be the toughest test for Pierre the rest of the regular season.
The Governor boys are flirting with a top eight spot and a home game in the first round of the playoffs but the final three games are far from secured wins as they begin the journey against Yankton. The Bucks have lost just once and at 8-1-1 are a top four team in AA. However, the lone loss for the Bucks was to Brandon Valley, who Pierre beat 10 days ago. The Governors will face Yankton, Jefferson, who is currently unbeaten, and Huron to close out the year. Without a 3-0 mark, the Governors will need some help to stay inside the top eight for a first round playoff matchup.
The girls will play first at 4:00 with the boys game to follow. Coverage will start at 3:40 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
