Both Pierre Governor soccer teams probably left on Tuesday with a sour taste in their mouth after the girls were held to a scoreless tie and the boys were downed 5-0.
There was hardly any offense in the first half of the girls contest with just three saves overall between the two teams as Jillian Hanson had her only save on the very first shot of the game. Pierre would dictate most of the play in the match but the Yankton defense kept the Governors out of the box throughout. Ashlyn Vogt made five saves with just two grade A chances. The girls will move to 7-3-1 on the season while Yankton is at 4-5-2.
The Governor boys went down in the first two minutes of the first half off a corner kick header by Zach Hebda. He would score his second of the game within the next five minutes to put Yankton up 2-0 early. The score would hold out until the Bucks added goals from Alexander Nockels, Gage Becker and Christian Schaeffer in the final four minutes of the game. Yankton outshot Pierre 19-11 with Carson Ahartz making eight saves in net. The Governors drop to 6-4-1 while Yankton improves to 9-1-1.
Pierre will host Sioux Falls Jefferson on Saturday afternoon. The girls will play first at 1:00 with the boys to follow. Coverage will start at 12:40 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
