Pierre City Commission Approves Replacement Of 40 Year Old Landfill Equipment

PIERRE — The Pierre City Commission has approved replacing a vital piece of machinery that operates at the city-run regional landfill. Solid Waste Manager Val Keller says the landfill’s scraper is nearing the end of its usefulness…

Keller says they have limped the current scraper along as much as possible…

The scraper is important given the Pierre landfill takes refuse from as far west as Philip, east to Miller and north to Agar and Onida. Baled garbage comes to Pierre from Huron. The city is also applying for assistance to purchase the 860-thousand dollar machine…

The scraper is a budgeted purchase for 2022. Keller says there is a six month backlog for delivery of the scraper so placing the order now will ensure it’s available for use in the spring.
