Former School Board Candidate Paul Giovanetti Asks Pierre School Board To Address Time Given For Lunches To Students

PIERRE — A former Pierre School Board candidate says Pierre School District students need more time to eat lunch. Paul Giovanetti says he campaigned as wanting to be a parent’s voice and plans to do that through public comment…

Giovanetti passed out a packet from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that says kids need at least 20 minutes of seat time, in-chair time for eating, during a lunch period. He says current lunch periods are under 30 minutes and that includes time to get to the lunch room from classes and lockers and back to the next class

Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says he’s never seen school staff force students to throw out food because time for lunch is up…

Giovanetti asked the Pierre School Board to consider a new policy for the next school year that would incorporate at 30 minute lunch period with a minimum of 20 minutes of seat time for lunch consumption. Glodt says the Pierre School District Administration team was going to discuss lunch length this week.
