Peterson, Derry Break Career Record, Soccer Splits with Brandon Valley

Saturday afternoon the Pierre Governors played its second to final road game of the season in Brandon. The scores were the same but the results were flipped. The Pierre boys won 3-0 while the girls would fall 3-0.

It’s back-to-back losses for the Governors and have been shutout in all three of its losses. The Govs are now 6-3-0 on the season. The two losses have dropped them to fourth place on the season with both Brandon and Aberdeen Central, two of the three losses, ahead of them in the AA standings. Pierre will look to right the ship against a 1-6-1 Brookings team on Thursday.

Cole Peterson scored twice and Rylan Derry added the third goal for the Govs fifth win of the season. Peterson scored goals 14 and 15 on the year, which is a single season record, but now has 17 in his career which breaks Cole Cruse’s career record since soccer has become a state sport. However, his teammate, Derry also picked up goal number 10 which is also 17 for his career, tying Peterson for the career high. With four games still left to play in the regular season and at least one playoff game, Peterson and Derry can put distance on the old record.

The Governor teams will be in Brookings for the final road contest of the season. The boys will play first at 4:00 with the girls game to follow.
