Junior Ayvrie Kaiser had 28 kills for the Pierre Governors on Tuesday as they held off a surge from the Mitchell Kernels winning 25-14, 25-17, 18-25, 25-27 and 15-8 to remain unbeaten at 5-0.
It’s the second time the Governor volleyball team had a two set lead before the opponent came back to force a fifth set. However, both times, the Governors were able to find a way to get a win against Rapid City Stevens and now Mitchell. The Governors rolled through the first two sets but the Kernels would not go quietly keeping Pierre at a distance throughout the third set. A late fourth set run by the Governors nearly closed it out but it wasn’t until the fifth set that Pierre would finish off the Kernels for the win. Along with her 28 kills, Kaiser added another two aces on the evening. Remi Price would tally 10 total kills for the Govs, which was good for second on the team.
Pierre will now have two matches this weekend on both Friday and Saturday. Friday evening the Governors will face Sturgis and then Spearfish Saturday afternoon. You can listen to both games on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
