Governors Force Five Turnovers to Beat Mitchell Kernels

The Pierre Governors used five turnovers, including four fumbles and an interception to beat the Mitchell Kernels 35-20 on Friday night in the home opener.

Lincoln Kienholz passed for 241 yards on 15-24 attempts and four touchdowns. Jack Merkwan caught his lone two passes for 98 yards and both went for scores. He currently has four catches for 186 yards and four touchdowns. Matt Hanson and Cade Kaiser had the other two receiving touchdowns of 39 yards for Hanson and 27 for Kaiser. Pierre would lead 21-7 at the end of the half. However, the Governors would punt five of its six offensive possessions before running out the clock in the seventh drive, only picking up 82 yards of total offense in the second half. Austin Foley would help put in the final strike recovering a fumble for a scoop and score of around 30 yards. The Kernels would outgain the Govs 397 to 276 in the game but both teams will sit at 1-1 on the season.
