Football Home Opener Hosting Mitchell

After a week one drubbing from the Harrisburg Tigers, the Pierre Governors will be at home for the first time in 2021 as they host the Mitchell Kernels on Friday.

Mitchell struggled to get separation from the Spearfish Spartans last Friday night but still won 28-7 to open up the season. Mitchell had just a 7-0 lead at the break and only led 14-0 at the end of the third quarter. However, the Kernel offense had three shutout quarters before the Spartans found the endzone in the final quarter. Pierre’s offense tallied over 400 yards last week and will look to do the same on Friday. The defense will be looking for a shutdown effort of more of a ground and pound style offense. Head Coach of the Pierre Governors, Steve Steele says there are plenty of takeaways from both sides of the ball from last week…

Steele says with now facing Mitchell and moving forward after Harrisburg, they will run the ball more than in week one …

And Steele says they will need to find ways around Mitchell’s front seven…

The Governors and Kernels will have kickoff at 7:00 at Hollister Field in Pierre. Coverage will begin at 6:30 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
