Pierre Woman Arrested For DUI After Leading Police On Brief Pursuit

PIERRE — A Pierre woman was arrested Tuesday morning after a traffic stop led to a short pursuit. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Dakota Avenue near Monroe Avenue. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, identified by police as 41 year-old Angela Fuentes attempted to flee the area and attempted to elude the officer. The vehicle finally stopped after a short pursuit in the 1000 block of Marina Avenue. Officers observed signs of impairment with Fuentes and after performing a field sobriety test, determined Fuentes was driving the motor vehicle under the influence. Fuentes was taken into custody on charges of D-U-I, Eluding, Reckless Driving, Speeding, a Stop Sign Violation, Expired License Plates and Driving without a Valid License.
