Girls Shutout Watertown, Boys Tie in Home Soccer Matches

The Pierre Soccer teams finished without a loss on Tuesday at home against Watertown, however, the boys team tied the Arrows while girls pitched another shutout.

In the boys contest, the Watertown Arrows opened up the score seven minutes into the game but the Governors would answer with goals from Kasey Broers and Rylan Derry, both assisted by Cole Peterson coming a minute and two minutes later. Yet, the Arrows had answer tying the game at 2-2 at halftime. The Governors would fall behind again early in the second half but a long run for Derry found the equalizing goal for the Governors to tie the game at 3-3 pushing the Pierre record to 3-2-1. Play was nearly the same as the Arrows outshot the Govs 17-16. Carson Ahartz made 10 saves in net while Blake Hight made six for Watertown.

In the girls contest, Pierre again needed a late second half goal to escape with another shutout victory. Grace Richter had a bouncing shot that made its way through to pick up the Govs lone goal winning 1-0. Pierre would outshoot the Arrows 14-4 as Jenna Gehring made two saves in net against the Arrows. The Govs have recorded a shutout in each of the five wins, now at 5-1.
