Sully Buttes Goes to 2-0 with Ugly Road Victory on Football Friday Night

Sometimes the end result is the best you can get, no matter how you get there,  and Sully Buttes made it count, with a 30-8 victory over Corsica/Stickney Friday night in Corsica

On the very first offensive play for Corsica Stickney—an eight yard pass on the right side—the Chargers Marshall Wittler intercepted and Sully Buttes took it methodically down the field, and scored to open the game.  An 8-0 lead soon evaporated as the Jaguars answered with a 49 yard drive on a short kick.  The ensuing drive had the Chargers go back up 14-8, on a bruising five yard run by senior running back Jordan Schall.  That was all the scoring for the first half.

In the second half both teams had troubles finding any rhythm until quarterback Landon Hepker ripped off an impressive 39 yard run to make the score 20-8.  After a couple of possession changes, the Chargers had the Jaguars pinned deep in a punting situation.  The snap sailed into the endzone, and the result; a safety, and a 22-8 Charger lead.  Sully Buttes would add another score with time winding down, and on the final drive for Corsica Stickney, the Jaguars fumbled, and Chase Yellowhawk recovered to finish the game.

The Chargers had success on the ground, tallying 312 yards rushing, and 318 yards total offense, while Corsica Stickney finished with 179 total yards offensively.

Sully Buttes—now 2-0, will host Class 9AA Lyman Friday night, while the Jaguars will play Thursday against Oldham Ramona/Rutland.  The Jags are 0-2, and just finished their Homecoming week.
