The Pierre Governors open the season Friday night against the top ranked 11AAA team on the road taking on the Harrisburg Tigers. The Governors start the season seeking its fifth straight state title.
It’s the first meeting between the two teams since week one in 2018 which ended in rain and a win for Harrisburg. It was a quick rematch of the 2017 state championship game which has started this run on top for the Governors. Harrisburg’s quarterback, Jacob Knuth, is a Minnesota Gopher recruit as he enters his senior year in aspirations of an 11AAA state title.
The Governors return Lincoln Kienholz, the all-state quarterback and most valuable player of last year’s state championship game, but will have a new look around him on skill positions. Matthew Hanson and Jayden Wiebe return as receivers but Brock Moser will get the start in week one in the backfield, replacing Maguire Raske and Jett Zabel will start at tight end, replacing South Dakota State’s Regan Bollweg.

Week one is an earlier kickoff with the game beginning at 6:00. Pregame coverage will start at 5:30 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
