Ravnsborg Enters No Contest Pleas To Misdemeanor Charges Tied To Fatal Crash

FORT PIERRE — After nearly a year, the criminal case against South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg is over. Ravnsborg pleaded no contest through is attorney Tim Rensch of Rapid City. Hyde County Deputy States Attorney Emily Sovell during sentencing says she understands no sentence will feel like justice for Joseph Boever’s family…

Boever’s sister Jane and wife Jennifer were both offered the chance to speak at the hearing with Jennifer Boever saying Ravnsborg was reckless the night of the accident…

Rensch says recklessness on the part of Ravnborg was never at question in the case…

Judge John Brown sentenced Ravnsborg to a 500-dollar fine for each of the two counts he pleaded no contest too; lane driving and use of an electronic device while driving. Careless driving was dismissed. Brown also ordered Ravnsborg to substantial community service promoting distracted driving awareness on the anniversary of Boever’s death. The public service part of Ravnsborg’s sentenced is being challenged by Rensch.
