Pierre Volleyball Beats Watertown to Open Season

The Pierre Governors used a dominating first and third set en route to a 3-1 win over the Watertown Arrows on Tuesday to open up the 2021 season. The set scores were 25-11, 19-25, 25-8 and 25-22.

The first three sets on Tuesday, each team jumped out to early leads with Pierre holding on to dominate sets one and three but after Watertown jumped out to an early lead second set lead, the Governors were able to tie and hold the set close to an 18-17 Watertown lead. However, the Arrows closed out the set and tie it up 1-1. In the fourth set, Pierre again jumped out to an early lead but Watertown would make a run and hold its last lead at 14-12. Head Coach Tiffany Stoeser used a timeout which sparked a 5-0 run for Pierre never relinquishing the lead again closing out the first win of the season.

Junior Ayvrie Kaiser led the team and game with 21 kills. Sophomore Reese Terwilliger had eight and Stoeser says this team has plenty of options…

And Stoeser is looking forward to the weekend in Rapid City starting with Stevens on Friday.

The Governors will play Stevens on Friday and Central on Saturday, both on the road. Pierre’s first home game is at on Saturday, September 4 against Aberdeen Central.
