In the home opener for the Pierre Governors, both the boys and girls team didn’t disappoint with wins against Roosevelt. The girls had a 1-0 shutout while the boys would win 4-2.
In the girls game, Jenna Gehring was outstanding in goal keeping the game scoreless throughout the first half. Gehring made12 saves in total in the game including a couple of exceptional saves. Although Pierre was outshot 17-13, and for the most part out played, Avery Davis with ten minutes left to go scored the lone goal to give Pierre a 3-0 start to the season.
In the boys contest, Cole Peterson scored 10 minutes in with Rylan Derry scoring five minutes later to give Pierre a quick 2-0 lead before the half. Steven Blanchette scored early in the second half to open up a 3-0 margin before Roosevelt scored two quick goals to pull within one with only 12 minutes later. Peterson put in the dagger just a minute later to give Pierre its 4-2 win and are now 2-1 on the season.
