The city of Pierre and the Capital Area Pickleball Association has recently received a $50,000 gift commitment towards the construction of the first pickleball court complex in central South Dakota.

This effort was initiated by Scott and Julia Jones who made a $25,000 commitment in honor of the late Jim Russell and his wife Char. Delta Dental of South Dakota joined the generosity with a $25,000 contribution of its own. These gifts will ensure a lasting legacy is left for Jim and Char who were partners in life and on the pickleball court. The future Capital Area Pickleball Court Complex will carry the Russell name in reverence. Before his passing this past July, Jim initiated a conversation with Scott and Julia asking for their help in funding the Capital Area Pickleball Court Complex.  Their commitment came with a request to honor Jim within the court complex in some way.  Jim passed away before a final decision was made, so Scott and Julia asked Jim’s wife Char for her blessing to honor Jim in this manner.  Her agreement set the stage for generosity and memoriam to merge on Pierre’s future pickleball courts. Char says when pickleball came about, Jim decided to give it a try…
