PIERRE — A project to reconstruct and refurbish the cross wind runway at Pierre Regional Airport next year has hit a snag. Back in June city officials asked the Pierre City Commission to approve requesting bids for the project…
City Engineer John Childs says the project will be completed at some point in the future…
On July 27th the Pierre City Commission awarded the bid to B-and-B Construction for five-point-six million dollars. Childs didn’t say why the federal funding was short or what if anything raised a question with the low bid. The project was to be 100-percent funding with federal transportation dollars the city received for reaching the 10-thousand enplanement mark as part of being enrolled in the Essential Air Service program. Other bids rejected by the Commission included Morris Incorporated at six-point-zero-five million; A-G-E at six-point-one million and Border States Paving at eigth-point-eight million. The project would have shortened the runway width by 50-feet, mill and overlay the surface and install new markings and lights.
