Census Numbers Indicate District 24 May Need To Expand To Meet Minimum Size

PIERRE — The first numbers from the 2020 U-S Census were released late last week. The numbers were released on the county level. Hughes County has 17-thousand 765 residents which is up four-point-four percent from the 2010 Census. Stanley County is at 2,980 residents; up point-five percent. Sully County is up five-point-three percent at 1,446 and Hyde County is down 11 percent 1,262; a loss of 158 residents. The current District 24 total is 23-thousand 453. The average population per Senate District is 25-thousand 333. Duvall says one thing the Senate and House Redistricting Committees want to avoid is splitting counties up…
