Stanley County Transitions back to 9-Man Football

Stanley County Transitions back to 9-Man Football

Back in 1986, the Stanley County Buffaloes won its only state title. The Class? 9A. A couple of years later the Buffaloes went to 11-man football but were unsuccessful in three state championship appearances; in 1989, 1990 and 1993. Now, in 2021, the Buffs return to 9-man with a dream of doing what the 1986 team accomplished; a state championship.

Max Foth is the head coach of the Stanley County Buffaloes and while the transition from 11-man to 9-man is new for him as a coach, the game itself is not new.  Foth is a graduate of Sully Buttes high school and played 9-man football. He says though it’s an easy transition with the players too…

Foth says the experience will be a big factor for the year…

Moving to 9-man football, the Buffs will play new teams not previously on the schedule and Foth says there’s two ways to look at it…

The Buffs open the season in Timber Lake on Friday, August 20. Kickoff against the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00.
