Fort Pierre Firefighters Return From 18 Day Deployment To Fight Western Wildfires

FORT PIERRE — Three Fort Pierre volunteer firefighters returned to Fort Pierre this week after spending 14 days fighting wildfires in Washington State. Assistant Chief Ty Odden says the forests of southeast Washington remind him of the Black Hills…

Odden says the farther west they traveled the extent of the western wildfires became obvious…

Local residents appreciated their sacrifice…

After working two weeks of mainly night shifts Odden took a day to get back on a normal schedule. He says everyone can help reduce the fire risk as fire crews are in short supply…

Odden says their fire engine broke down on the way home near Sheridan, Wyoming. A Fort Pierre resident, Donnie Edwards, stopped what he was doing and drove all night with a lowboy trailer to help Odden, Justin Jones and Trey Stroup finish their mission and return home.
