Governor Football to Continue Tradition with Oahe Downstream to Open Practices

The Pierre Governor Football team is heading into the 2021 season in search of a fifth straight state title. One of the big things that will be different this year is the amount of teams in 11AA. Watertown and Aberdeen Central move from the AAA ranks down and Tea Area pushes up from 11A.

Even though things are different, the traditions stay the same. The Governors use the first week of practice to be at Oahe Downstream. Head Coach of the Pierre Governors, Steve Steele, says it’s the most important part of the beginning of the season…

Even with the four straight titles, Steele is not concerned with complacency with this team…

And Steele says he’s excited for this season and the different look the Governors will have…

The Governors will spend the first three days of practice at Oahe Downstream. Pierre opens the season at Harrisburg on Friday, August 27. Pierre football can be heard all season on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
