Names Released In Buffalo County Fatal Crash

FORT THOMPSON –The names of four people involved in a fatal crash in Buffalo County have been released. The crash happened 14 miles northeast of Fort Thompson on Sunday night around 7:30 when a Chevy Equinox and Dodge pick-up crashed into each other at the crest of a hill on 349th Avenue. Randa Haak, a 17 year-old from Gann Valley was killed in the crash after being taken to a Chamberlain hospital. She was using a seat belt. Seventy-eight year-old Jerome Konechne of Kimball suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries in the crash while 77 year-old Darrel Sauder or Rapid City suffered minor injuries. A third passenger in the truck, 68 year-old Daniel Knippling of Kimball suffered life threatening injuries. Knippling was transported to a Wessington Springs hospital before being airlifted to Sioux Falls. Knippling was not wearing a seat belt. Sauder and Konechne were also using seat belts at the time of the crash.
