PIERRE — A Pierre man is facing multiple charges after leading numerous law enforcement agencies on a pursuit through Pierre and Fort Pierre. Officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue for a report of a vehicle being taken without permission around seven PM. Approximately 45 minutes later, officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, being driven by 32 year-old Torin Dewitt near Sioux and Monroe Avenues. Dewitt failed to stop for officers and officers pursued him into Fort Pierre. Shortly after crossing the Bad River on U-S Highway 83, Dewitt turned around and headed back into Pierre. The pursuit ended at a residence in the 500 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Dewitt fled the vehicle and while doing so produced a knife from his pocket. Officers took Dewitt into custody without injury to themselves or Dewiit. Dewitt is charged with Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Aggravated Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Threatening Law Enforcement, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Driving on with a Revoked License. Assisting Pierre Police were the Hughes and Stanley County Sheriff’s Offices and South Dakota Highway Patrol.
