Renner Steals Opening Game over Pierre

The first game of the state tournament for Pierre Post 8 was taken right from the grasp of the Eights in a 2-1 loss to Renner.

Pierre had just one hit through the first four innings as Reece Arbogast threw a gem for the Royals. Renner would score first in the bootom of the fourth after a couple of walks from Jack Van Camp, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch brought in the go-ahead run. Maguire Raske, in the top of the sixth, would get his second hit, a double down the line in right scoring Jayden Wiebe to tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the sixth, back-to-back hits for the Royals had runners at second and third with nobody out. Van Camp would get the first man to ground out and then a strike out to retire the next two hitters. But Austin Henry would steal home on a 0-2 pitch and score to give Renner a 2-1 lead. Arbogast had a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to finish out the win.

The Eights will play in an elimination game tomorrow against Watertown at 11:00 AM. Coverage will begin at 10:40 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
